The Skelligs

A visit to the Skelligs is a unique life experience where you can immerse yourself in the Wild Atlantic Way. The monastery and hermitage built by the monks of St. Finian inspire solitude and contemplation; the wildlife that inhabits the islands and the waters that surround them instill a strong connection to this unique place and its importance in the natural world.

All excursions with SkelligWalker are weather dependent. We will endeavour to provide the most up to date information regarding our sailings each day to ensure that all passengers are aware of sea conditions and that it is safe to travel.

Your expedition to the Skelligs with SkelligWalker Cruises starts at Portmagee marina. All passengers are requested to check in 30 minutes prior to advised departure time to allow adequate time to be fitted with a buoyancy aid. Cost of a trip to Skellig Michael is EUR100 per person. A trip to the Skelligs requires a reasonable level of fitness and appropriate clothing and footwear is needed to ensure your safety and comfort. For safety reasons, passengers under the age of 12 are not permitted on this cruise. Skellig Michael lies 11.6km (7.2 miles) west of Valentia Island and transit time to the island is approximately 1 hour. The tour incorporates:

  • landing at Skellig Michael where all visitors are met by Office of Public Works (OPW) guides who will outline the climb to the monastery
  • visitors climb the steps to the monastery where another guide provides information on the history of the island and the monastic settlements
  • return to the pier at Skellig Michael at approximately 1pm
  • tour around Little Skellig to observe bird and sealife
  • SkelligWalker returns to Portmagee marina at approximately 2:00pm
